September 6, 2018, Baguio City – Cebuana Lhuillier Foundation, Inc. (CLFI) joined the Literacy Coordinating Council (LCC) to confer the Special Award of Excellence in Literacy to the Municipality of Plaridel, Bulacan after having successfully sustained their winning programs in literacy for three years after winning the Hall of Fame Award in 2015. The PhP 200,000 cash prize was awarded by CLFI’s Executive Director Mr. Jonathan D. Batangan and CLFI Program Manager Ms. Kristina Muñiz to Municipal Mayor Jocell Aimee Vistan-Casaje.
In June 4-5 National Validation Day, LCC judges headed by its Chairperson Ms. Aurea Jean Abad together with Ms. Susan Carandang, Ms. Ma. Cristina Gonzales, LCC Secretariat Staff Ms. Ma. Teresita Manlolo and CLFI representative were assisted by Mr. Jeffrey Gleane, the Youth Development Officer of the municipality in visiting different program sites of the Municipality such as Barangay Dampol Day Care Center (made of bricks from recyclable materials like plastics); Barangay Lagundi wherein they are conducting their Pabasa Sa Nutrisyon Program and Sustainable Livelihood Program; Barangay San Jose Health Center for their Ugnay, Haplos, Aruga (UHA) Program; Municipal Recovery Facility for their Bote Mo, Edukasyon Ko Program; Barangay Bintog for their Organic Agriculture Learning Site; and lastly, Municipal Jail for Women or what they call “Female Dormitory”. During the visit, Mayor Vistan also discussed about Modernong Kwaderno, Kabataang Iskolar ni Plaridel (KID), One Tree One KID, and Hubog Alalay sa Kabataan (HAKAB) Program. All of the programs are anchored to Bote Mo, Edukasyon Ko Program wherein the beneficiaries are required to bring recyclable plactic bottle as they avail the free services of the LGU.
The LCC journey of Plaridel, Bulacan started in 2010. After that, they successfully won the first place in 2012, 2014 and in 2015 – winning the Hall of Fame Award.
CLFI has been the official benefactor of the cash component of the Special Award of Excellence in Literacy amounting to Two Hundred Thousand Pesos since 2014. CLFI and LCC already awarded Municipalities of Agoo, L Union and Tubungan IloIlo in 2014, Tagum Davao in 2015 and Davao City in 2016.
